About us
RDP has been an architectural practice since 1988
and is headed by Stuart Rumsey, an architect and local resident
of over 25 years who has a wealth of experience in all forms of
construction and a considerable number of contacts with the local
authorities, builders, clients and the local community.
Stuart is supported by a number of architects
and technicians and the office is run along studio principles where
all the projects are discussed and reviewed to ensure that imaginative
and creative yet practical solutions are found.
The office is easily accessible and is located
off London Road on Cross Street, opposite a car-park. We pride ourselves
on being a friendly down to earth office and encourage people to
drop in to see who we are and what we do.
We welcome all scales of projects from roof conversions
and small extensions through to new-build houses and office developments
to masterplanning.
We consider though that no matter what the scale,
all the projects can be run using the following priorities which
form the basis of our approach:
- Fulfil the Clients aim and objectives in terms of programme
and budget.
- Provide sensible and practical advice to lead to imaginative
and appropriate designs.
- Aim to maximise what can be achieved in terms of both quality
and quantity through careful negotiation with the authorities.
- To help improve the design standards set and improve the visual
environment and places in which we live.
- Produce environmentally conscious buildings. We feel we have
an important role to play in this process, particularly when we
consider buildings account for 40% of our nations energy use.
We therefore aim to use ‘natural energy’ wherever
possible in ventilation, heating and lighting to decrease the
dependence on man-made energy sources, to select materials from
sustainable sources and to design energy efficiency into the buildings
through form, insulation levels and heating systems.
